Gary Junction Road/Telfer Mine Road

The Gary Junction Road/Telfer Mine Road links Alice Springs to many Aborigional communities in the western Northern Territory and eastern Western Australia. The road is usually well graded, smooth gravel with access either via the Tanami Track, north west of Alice Springs or through the McDonnell Ranges. This is a very easy scenic drive.


·         Best travelled: April- September.

·         Start and finish points: Marble Bar- Alice Springs.

·         Total distance: 1653km.

·         Approx time to cover: At least 2 days.

·         Longest distance between fuel supplies: Kunawarritji to Mount Liebig (760km).

·         Availability of other supplies: Marble Bar, Punmu, Kunawarritji, Walungurru, Mount Liebig, Papunya, Alice Springs.

·         Rating: Easy.

·         Permits required and contacts: Permits are required for both the Northern Territory and Western Australian sections.
